Commercial Thermal Modelling / JV3 Assessments

Some non-residential buildings, particularly designs featuring a large area of external glazing, are very hard, or even impossible to achieve compliance using the Deemed to Satisfy provisions of BCA Volume 1, Section J (Energy Efficiency).

The good news is that even if it is impossible or impractical to achieve compliance using the DTS, it is often still possible to achieve compliance, using the JV3 verification method. This involves thermal modelling of the building (or part thereof) in order to conduct a comparison with the verification building as described in Section J of the BCA. The thermal modelling can also be done in conjunction with daylight modelling which may be required for Planning Approval or as a Condition of Permit.
