Every detached dwelling and apartment must show compliance with energy efficiency regulations in order to get a building permit. In most cases this means achieving a 6 star NatHERS (National House Energy Rating Scheme) energy rating.
Updates to FirstRate5 rating software
Victoria’s most popular NatHERS Energy Rating software, FirstRate5, has been undergoing a series of major updates including a library of Australian Fenestration Rating Council (AFRC) custom windows and roof windows.
FirstRate5 now supports the selection of hundreds of individual windows and glazed doors by over 80 different window manufacturers. The windows are in line with the official U and SHGC values from the WERS (Window Energy Rating Scheme) database, and new ones are added bi-annually.
What does this mean for your project? In place of the limited range of default windows, if your preferred manufacturer and window is included in the FirstRate5 custom window library we can select it. In many cases this enables more accurate ratings and better results.
In addition, projects may no longer need to be penalised for having to select glazing that is higher performing than the default windows and doors, which was previously the only option in FirstRate5. Give us a buzz on 1300 66 45 32 if you want to know whether your preferred window supplier is included in the new FirstRate5 custom window libraries.
All accredited raters now required to have a Certificate IV
In further news, all existing Thermal Performance Assessors, who are accredited to perform NatHERS energy ratings, have now been required to have completed the new Certificate IV in NatHERS Assessment.
We are pleased to report that we have 4 Cert IV qualified energy raters on staff, all fully insured and accredited with the Building Designer's Association of Victoria (BDAV). We are based in Melbourne and do not outsource any of our ratings offshore or to other companies. In this way we can ensure quality, accuracy and continuity of service. Don’t put your project at risk your project by using a non-accredited, uninsured contractor!
Our experienced and accurate team does hundreds of projects each year, as small as 1 dwelling or as big as 1,000. Every single job is peer reviewed by a separate rater before being issued, and we have passed all of our BDAV audits with flying colours and excellent feedback from Auditors and Building Surveyors alike.
Want to save yourself or your client money on your ratings for building approval?
You may have used us to do your Sustainable Design Assessment or Sustainability Management Plan as part of your planning approval process. We can often reuse preliminary ratings we have done at planning permit stage, to reduce the time/cost required at building permit stage, thus reducing the cost to the project budget.
